Stacked cardboard moving boxes waiting in a cleared room on move day
Four lanes · Two crews · One day per booking

We move the streets other firms measure twice and drive away from.

Small Verge is built for the edge of the map — the narrow lanes, the shared stairwells, the third-floor flat with a turn in the landing. Small trucks, trained carriers, and a plan written before anyone lifts a box.

01 — 04 · Move lanes

Pick the lane that matches your access, not your postcode.

Every lane runs a different crew size, vehicle and load order. Reading these is the fastest way to know whether we are the right firm for your move — and what your day will actually look like.

Bright family house interior with wide hallway ready for a full household move
01 Whole-house removals

Two to four bedrooms, driveway or kerbside loading.

The standard lane. We wrap and carry the full contents of a house in one working day, with a dedicated packer working a room ahead of the carriers so nothing waits on the landing.

  • CrewThree carriers plus a load supervisor who stays with the truck.
  • Vehicle7.5t box van with a tail lift; a second run if the survey shows over-volume.
  • OrderBeds and wardrobes first, kitchen last, essentials box loaded last and unloaded first.

Compact furnished apartment living room typical of a walk-up flat move
02 Walk-ups & shared stairwells

No lift, tight landings, a door you have to hold open.

The lane we were founded on. Everything is sized against the narrowest point on the route before it leaves the room, and sofas are measured at the turn rather than at the doorway.

  • CrewFour carriers so nobody takes a full flight of stairs alone.
  • KitStair skates, shoulder straps, door guards and corner protectors on every landing.
  • AccessWe walk the stairwell in the survey and mark anything that needs dismantling.

Small open-plan office with desks and chairs prepared for an out-of-hours relocation
03 Small office relocation

Under thirty desks, moved between a Friday and a Monday.

Studios, clinics and small practices. Desks are numbered against a floor plan you approve in advance, so the crew places furniture in its final position instead of stacking it in reception.

  • TimingOut-of-hours loading so your last working day is not a packing day.
  • LabelsColour-coded crates keyed to your new floor plan, one colour per room.
  • TechScreens and machines crated separately; cables bagged to the desk they came from.

Racked storage warehouse aisle where part-loads are held between move dates
04 Storage handover

When the two dates in your chain refuse to meet.

A part-load lane for gaps between completion and keys. We load into your own storage unit, or hand a sealed, inventoried load to the facility you have already booked — we do not resell storage.

  • InventoryA numbered list signed by you at pickup and checked again at delivery.
  • WrappingUpholstery bagged and sealed for storage, not just blanketed for transit.
  • ReturnThe same crew brings the load back out whenever the chain closes.

How the day runs

Five fixed stages, so nobody is guessing at eight in the morning.

The sequence is the same for every lane. Only the crew size and the vehicle change.

  1. Stage 01

    Survey

A walk-through of both ends, including the stairwell, the parking and the narrowest turn. Nothing is quoted from a photograph.

  2. Stage 02

    Written plan

You receive the load order, the crew size, the arrival window and the list of items we intend to dismantle, before you confirm.

  3. Stage 03

    Wrap & load

Soft furnishings bagged, hard edges blanketed and strapped, boxes stacked heaviest first against the bulkhead.

  4. Stage 04

    Place

Every box goes to the room named on its label, and beds are rebuilt before the crew starts on anything else.

  5. Stage 05

    Sign-off

We walk the empty property with you, collect the wrapping we brought in, and check the inventory against the list.

Scope

What the price covers, what it does not, and what we will not carry.

A moving quote goes wrong when the scope is vague. This is the whole boundary, written down before you ask for it.

In every booking

  • Pre-move survey at both addresses
  • Furniture blankets, straps and corner protectors
  • Mattress and upholstery bags
  • Dismantling and rebuilding of beds and flat-pack wardrobes
  • Floor and door-frame protection on the carry route
  • Removal of our own wrapping at the end of the day
  • Goods-in-transit cover for the load we carry

Priced separately

  • Full packing service, room by room
  • Kitchen and glassware packing with double-wall cartons
  • Crates and wheeled dollies for office moves
  • A second vehicle where the survey shows over-volume
  • Waiting time beyond one hour on a delayed key release
  • Specialist handling for pianos and safes
  • Weekend and bank-holiday dates

Each of these appears as a separate line on the written plan. Nothing is added on the day without your say-so.

We can't carry

  • Fuel, gas bottles and aerosols
  • Paint, solvents and garden chemicals
  • Loose ammunition or fireworks
  • Live plants on journeys over four hours
  • Pets and livestock of any kind
  • Cash, jewellery and legal documents

Keep valuables and documents with you. We will tell you at survey if anything in the house falls into this list.

Questions

The six things people ask us before they book.

Q1Who arranges parking for the truck?

We do, wherever a permit or suspension is available, and it appears as a named line on your written plan. If the street cannot take a 7.5-tonne van we switch the booking to two smaller vehicles at survey stage rather than on the morning.

Q2Does a top-floor flat cost more than a ground floor?

It changes the crew size rather than the hourly rate. Above the second floor with no lift we send four carriers instead of three, which usually shortens the day enough that the total lands close to a ground-floor move of the same volume.

Q3Can I pack some rooms myself and leave the rest to you?

Yes, and it is the most common arrangement. Tell us which rooms at survey. We ask that self-packed boxes are taped along the seam, filled to the top so they don't crush, and labelled with the destination room rather than the contents.

Q4How do you handle mirrors, art and anything fragile?

Framed items travel upright in a picture carton with corner protection, never flat under other goods. Anything over a metre across is crated. Tell us about it at survey so the carton is on the van before the day, not sourced in a hurry.

Q5What happens if it rains, or keys are late?

Rain is a routine working condition — floor protection goes down and boxes are covered on the carry. A late key release is different: the first hour of waiting is included, and beyond that we either hold the load on the vehicle or divert it to the storage lane, whichever you choose on the call.

Q6How late can I change or move the date?

Reschedule free up to seven days before the booking. Inside seven days we hold your deposit against the new date where we can fill the slot. Completion dates slip constantly in a chain, so tell us early and we will work around it rather than charge for it.

Get a moving date

Tell us the two ends of the move.

Access matters more than volume, so the access notes are the field worth filling in properly. We reply with a survey slot and an honest read on whether your date is still open.

  • A written plan and a fixed crew size before you commit.
  • No quote issued without a survey at both addresses.
  • One crew on your move from the first box to sign-off.

We use your details to arrange the survey and quote for this move, nothing else.
